Ali Kethüda Mosque known as one of the most historical buildings of Central Sarıyer in İstanbul got built by the Chamberlain of Grand Vizier Ali Efendi during the reign of Sultan Mustafa II. (17th century).
Ali Kethüda Mosque on Yenimahalle Street, located close to the coast, was gotten restored by Kethüda Mehmet Ağa between 1720 and 1721. Even the mosque minaret was added during this period. Ali Kethüda Mosque, which underwent a comprehensive restoration in the middle of the 19th century, was actually on the coast when it was first built. Obviously, the coast was filled by the time and the mosque moved further inside. Ali Kethüda Mosque, which has a rectangular plan in general terms, has a depth towards the qibla.
Ali Kethüda Mosque, which is placed on the basement floor, consists of a sanctuary and a indoor narthex. The columns of the mosque, where you can go up to the narthex by only taking two or three steps from the street, carry the gathering-place. The famous window frames of Ali Kethüda Mosque, where the middle nave has high ceilings, although the south and north are two- storied, are definitely worth seeing. The boathouse used for centuries located under Ali Kethüda Mosque, was opened for worship as the third floor after a major restoration.
In addition to the mosque walls covered with bush-hammered mosaics, it is remarkable that there is no mosque courtyard on the street side. In addition to the mosque altar, which is renewed with black and white marbles, the octagonal cone in the pavilion part of the minbar also brings a completely different ambiance. Ali Kethüda Mosque, which has a wooden roof and completely masonry walls, is among the most important cultural heritages of Istanbul.
