Pişirici Kasteli

Pişirici Kasteli, known for its widespread use hundreds of years ago and almost never succumbed to time until today, is one of the landmarks of Gaziantep. Hundreds of years ago, authentic buildings were built in Gaziantep to meet the people's water needs. In these buildings called Kastel, people come together to do laundry free of charge with the flow of clean water. This type of structure, which is essentially a very important public service, is found only in Gaziantep in Turkey. One of these structures is Pişirici Kasteli, the most well-known and visited one. The roof part of the kastel being the opposite side of the Agha Mosque, one of the prominent historical values of the city, is at the level of the road and the washing areas are reached by stairs. Although the date of the construction of the Kastel is not known clearly, sources record that it is predominantly a 13th-century structure. Apart from the entrance, where the pool, bathroom and toilets are located, the carved stone ceiling is also noted. The pool that is active in the middle of the present day can be shown among other details. Pişirici Kasteli, one of the six kastels that have survived in Gaziantep, is an important cultural stop visited by hundreds of people every day. The venue, which becomes quite cool especially in the summer months, is also considered to be one of the stand-out destinations for catching a breath in the city.Decommissioning of kastel is also used by some residents in order to meet their water needs by continuing to serve kastel's original purpose. There is also a masjid located under the structure. This religious place of worship, which was restored in the past years, is open today.
