Ispir Castle
22.08.2024 12:56
Ispir Castle, one of the rare works left from the Ilhanlar State, has defying the time since the 12th century.
Ispir Castle, which is thought to have been built by Hülagu Khan or Abaka Khan, one of the rulers of the Ilhans State, which has ruled anatolian territory for more than a century, is the fingerprint of the Ilhans. The castle, built in the 12th century, was not allowed to succumb to time by Sultan Suleiman, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and was repaired in the 16th century.
The foundation of the castle, which is also very interesting in terms of its architectural features, is laid with stones collected from the Coruh River. The minaret at the mosque of Ispir Castle, whose upper walls are made of cut stone, is also designed as a watchtower.
Ispir Castle, which follows the left of the Coruh River and follows the road to Erzurum, is a vivid example of the history, aesthetic understanding and architectural development of the city.
