For the Ottoman Empire, the beginning of the 20th century was extremely turbulent. The tension that had been going on for many years in the country's territory on the European continent before World War I reached its climax with the war that began in 1912.In the war immediately after the Battle of Tripoli in 1911, the Ottomans fought on two fronts, east and west. There were violent clashes with Bulgarians in the East and beside Bulgarians, there were also Greeks, Macedonians, Albanians and Montenegro in the west.As a result, the Ottoman Empire lost the war and had to sign a peace treaty with heavy conditions. During this whole war, 20 thousand people, including soldiers and civilians, were killed on the Ottoman front. Following this sad sequence of events, by 1994, nearly 100 years after the war, the Balkan martyrdom was inaugurated. In the martyrdom of Sarayiçi district, the names of 100 officers and 400 soldiers are written on the blocks. The Balkan martyrdom, which has a spiritual atmosphere, also contains many visual elements such as Telegram texts taken during the war, which are found on the stone. The stone blocks, including the military stories experienced during the war in Edirne, have a big influence on each visitor by making them feel full moments of emotion.
