Gökçeada, Turkey's tourist paradise on the Aegean Sea, has a very historic site. The historical laundry in the village square in Dereköy, which is a very important settlement in the island, is among the interesting destinations. In the historical laundry, where the water still flows and is made of cut stone, people used to sit on the fountain heads and wash their clothes. This structure was an important meeting point for the social life of the village. Dereköy ;on the other hand, was an important village in that time. The village with a large population of 2 thousand households is home to village coffee houses, a grocery store, a tailor, a barber, a cinema, and the factory. Today, although the population has decreased considerably, approximately 140-150 households Greeks and Turks live in there. Authentic traces of old village life can be observed vividly in Dereköy. Located approximately 20 minutes from Gökçeada Center, the Dereköy historical Rum Laundrette is one of the most important cultural places to be seen in the village. There are also two churches here, dated to the early 1800s.
