The importance of baths in the Ottoman Empire is explained by religious references. The special emphasis on cleanliness in the Koran makes the baths popular. You can turn your direction to Bursa for rare examples of Ottoman baths.
One of the historical baths that you can visit when you come to Bursa, which is a special city in terms of baths and spas, is Şengül Hammam. This hammam is very close to Ulu(Grand) Mosque. The bath was built by Sultan Yıldırım Beyazıt in the 1400s. The income from this period is intended to provide income to the Grand Mosque. The Şengül Hammam, which reflects the Ottoman bath architecture to a large extent, is included in the single bath class.
It is a small and simple structure in general. The place, which has been repaired many times over time, continues to function as a hammam until the beginning of the Republican period. Today, even if it manages to maintain its physical character, it serves a different purpose. When you arrive in the area where the hammam is today, the silversmiths' shops will welcome you. This small market is active between 10:00 and 17:00. Today, this place is now known as ‘Gümüşçüler Bazaar’.
Rubble stones are used in the walls of the Şengül Hammam, which is also close to bedesten(Ottoman Bazaar). The part of the standoff is covered by a small dome. In this area is the transition to the temperature field in my rectangular shape, which has two iwans. On the other hand, there are two different seclusions in the same area. The boiler is located in the western part of the bath. Written sources say that Şengül Hammam was rented in the first period for 25 akçe (small silver coin). It is severely damaged by major fires and earthquakes over time. Some walls of the standoff area have collapsed. However, it is one of the domes that sits on the pulley and the temperature area reaches as it is today. You can choose public transportation to Osmangazi district to reach Şengül Hammam.
