Karçal Dağları

Karçal Mountains, also known as Karaçal Mountain, is a mountain range at the northeastern tip of Turkey. The plateaus in these mountains, which are located between Turkey and Georgia, are very important because they are located on the migration routes of passage birds. There are many endemic plant diversity on this route where Beyazsu, Gorgit and Klaskur plateaus are located. The highest point of Karçal Mountains, where trekking tracks are also located, is 3 thousand 428 meters. These plateaus in the Karçal Mountains, which are located at an average distance of 25 to 65 kilometers from the city center, can be easily reached with a car rented from the center. These mountains extend as far as the Coruh and Berta Valleys and the Georgian border. The most important features of Karçal Mountains, which is one of the most important places in Turkey in terms of biological diversity, is the ecosystem diversity that occurs due to sudden altitude changes. This brings along a very high endemism rate and rich wildlife. In terms of plant geography, the Karçal Mountains, located in the "Colchic" part of the European-Siberian Floristic Region, is one of the 200 priority ecological regions at global level determined by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the World Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). is located within the boundaries of the "Caucasus and North Anatolian Temperate Belt Forests". International organizations such as Conservation International (CI), World Bank and GEF also cite the Caucasus Region as one of the 25 richest but endangered terrestrial ecological regions in the world.
