The ancient city of Limyra, located within the borders of Antalya's Finike district, is located 5.5 kilometers away from the Finike-Elmalı turn on the Kumluca-Finike land road. The ancient theatre building on the left side of the ancient city and the Xatabura Mausoleum a little further away are shown among the most popular structures of the ancient city of Limyra. To see hillside houses, Acropolis church, Perikle Heronu (Monument), rock tombs, ramparts and many more, you must climb to the top of the ancient city of Limyra. The foundation date of the ancient city of Limyra dates back to the 5th century BC, when the stream flowing right in the middle of the colonnaded street created an exquisite image. Limyra was used as the capital at that time in order to establish the Lycian League against the Persians of the Lycian Pericles. The eternal fire of freedom of Lycia, which became symbolic in the ancient world, was also lit in this Limyra. The ancient city of Limyra, whose name is also mentioned in the likik inscriptions as Zemuri, has been excavated since 1969. Most of the finds from different periods are exhibited in Antalya Museum. In addition to the Acropolis and inner castle on the northern slope of the ancient city, the fortifications and cisterns are definitely worth seeing. Especially the Limyros stream and the early Byzantine fortification to the west of it also attract attention. Limyra, which is one of the most ancient cities in the Lycian region with rock tombs, has more than 400 rock tombs. The monumental tomb built in 4 years after Islam is another important building built by Gaius Caesar, the spiritual son of Emperor Augustus. Let us also remind you that you have the opportunity to swim on the famous colonnaded street of the ancient city of Limyra.
