17.08.2024 15:27
The Tower of Hıdırlık, an ancient Roman structure, is a famous tower dating from the 2nd century in the walls surrounding Old Antalya. The lower part is square, the upper part is cylinder-shaped tower; having 14 meters high and located at the southwest end of the castle walls, which is used as a park today.
The tower, which has been preserved very well today, stands out with its thick walls. It consists of two main parts: the lower floor, where there is a small room, and the upper floor, which is reached by stairs through the hall. There is a sightseeing area on the upper floor. The room downstairs, according to a rumor, has the function of a tomb. However, there is not enough information to prove the truth. The first floor also houses frescoes (various paintings) that can be seen, albeit in a faint manner.
The watchtower and the walls of the tower, which are used as lanterns by burning fires, and its general appearance attract the attention of cultural sightseeing enthusiasts. The opinion that it may have been used for defensive purposes prevails. Hidirlik Tower with beautiful views, another 2nd century Roman work, Hadrian gate, can be reached by crossing Atatürk Street in the busy areas of Antalya.
