The museum, which has witnessed the rich Anatolian history of thousands of years since the Chipped Stone Age, is located in the historical Ulus district of Ankara's Altindag district along the route of the Çankaya-Esenboga road. It is an ‘award-winning’ and must-see museum with unique artifacts from the Anatolian geography, which stretches from the border of Armenia in the east to the Aegean Sea in the west, from the Black Sea in the north to the Mediterranean in the South.
The works exhibited in the museum are in two structures that have survived from the Ottoman period.Museum of Anatolian Civilizations having at first only the Hittite period (B.C. 1680-1220) works is famous for its own collection with the addition of artifacts of other civilizations, such as Phrygian, Urartu today. Stone artifacts and small finds from Alacahöyük and many other archaeological excavations are located in separate sections. Mother goddess figure and Hittite Sun are among the must-see.
The museum, which was awarded the European Museum of the Year Award in 1997, is waiting for its local and foreign visitors who are curious about the historical heritage of ancient Anatolia, which was a cradle of civilizations with its works, including the oldest map of the world (6200 BC, Çatalhöyük City Plan).
