Çanakkale City Guide

Çanakkale, which is a strategically important spot because of being located on an important transit route between two continents, has a coast on both the Aegean Sea and the Marmara Sea. It is surrounded by Edirne and Tekirdağ in the north, Balıkesir in the south and east, and the Aegean Sea in the south and west. This city has both Mediterranean and Black Sea climate and receives precipitation generally in spring and winter months. Although the weather is usually windy in this tourist destination, it is hot in the summer time.

The districts of Çanakkale are Ayvacık, Bayramiç, Biga, Bozcaada, Çan, Eceabat, Ezine, Gelibolu, Gökçeada, Lapseki, Merkez (Center) and Yenice in alphabetical order.

The most famous dish of Çanakkale is sardine. The other local delicacies of the city are Ezine peyniri (local Ezine cheese), mussels, cheese halva, fried goat, olives and olive oil, oğmaç çorbası (soup of tiny dough pieces), iskorpit çorbası (scorpion fish soup), tumbi yemeği (local type of vegetable meatball), metez (local type of meat filled ravioli), melki köftesi (meatball made of mushroom), tarhanlı patlıcan (a dish made of eggplants and dried tomatoes), börülce köftesi (meatballs made of black-eyed peas) and lüfer pilavı (rice with bluefish).
