It is bounded by Kocaeli, Yalova and the Sea of Marmara to the north, Kütahya to the south, Bilecik to the east and Balıkesir to the west. The industry, textile and tourism sectors are developed in Bursa, which is the fourth largest city of Turkey. Approximately 35 percent of the city’s land consists of mountains. Uludağ is also among the tourist destinations of this region. The region, which generally has a temperate climate, has also harsh climate features due to the Uludağ Mountain located in the south. Districts There are 17 districts in Bursa. Osmangazi and Nilüfer are the most known districts of the city. Büyükorhan, Yıldırım, Gemlik, Gürsu, Harmancık, İnegöl, İznik, Karacabey, Keles, Kestel, Mudanya, Mustafakemalpaşa, Orhaneli, Orhangazi and Yenişehir are the other districts of the city. History In the archaeological excavations, 7 thousand- year- old ruins were found in Bursa. It is mentioned in the ancient sources that the old name of the city was used as 'Prusa' and 'Bitinya'. Empires such as Lydia, Phrygia, Greece, the Romans, Byzantine and the Ottomans ruled in Bursa, which has hosted many communities and civilizations throughout the history. The city even served as the capital of the empire after being conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1326. Food Culture The most famous dishes of Bursa are İnegöl meatball and İskender kebab. Pideli köfte (meatball served on pitta bread), cantık (local meat pitta), chestnut candy, Kemalpaşa tatlısı (local dessert), Bağdat hurması tatlısı (local dessert made of date) are also among famous local tastes.
