Hüsrev Paşa Mosque

Hüsrev Pasa Mosque, considered one of the masterworks of The Ottoman chief architect Mimar Sinan, is known to have been built by Van Beylerbeyi Köse Hüsrev Pasha in 1567. The mausoleum, inn, bath, madrasa; It is located in a complex, including the structure called imaret, a building providing services to the poor. The mosque, which has a square-shaped plan, is covered with a dome. In its construction, it is seen that the preferred construction materials of the period are cutting stone and tromp used as a transition element close to the roof, and bricks are used in the dome section. The gate is located on a small ledge on the north front. With its restored minaret, the use of two colored cutstones, dark and light, on the exterior in general, stands out. On the other hand, the architectural part, defined as the last congregational place, did not reach the present day because it was destroyed. There are also no tiles of the mosque rising from the wall to a certain level. It is recorded that the tiles were dismantled during World War I and taken to Russia. It can also be stated that the geometric decorated altar made of limestone on the qibla wall has also been destroyed. Hüsrev Pasa Mosque, a valuable work in terms of art history, is among the artistic values in Van. The work of Mimar Sinan, which had a general restoration, welcomes the congregation who come mainly from nearby areas for Friday prayers due to the lack of settlement around it. In addition, the attention is intense during the teravih prayers performed during Ramadan.
