Sheikh Ali Dede Tomb takes its name from Şazeli Ali Dede. Şazeli Ali Dede first moved to Istanbul in Africa. After living in Istanbul's Erenköy district for a while, he settled in Şanlıurfa and opened a lodge here.

It is estimated that the tomb, which has Ottoman architectural features, was built during the reign of Murad IV. The tomb is also one of the important votive centers of Şanlıurfa. It is said that the Ottoman ruler, Murad IV, took Şazeli Ali Dede with him as a comrade to the Baghdad Campaign. After the expedition is successful, they return safely. On the way back, the Sultan stays with Ali Dede in Şanlıurfa. Concerned about his age, he wants Ali Dede to stay in Şanlıurfa and serve the state by educating students. Thereupon, he allocates land to Ali Dede. After settling in Şanlıurfa, Ali Dede trained many students here. It is known that every year his students sent hatim for Murad IV and his soldiers.
