The history of ikonion, which is the origin of the name today, dates back thousands of years. Nearly the last thousand years of the city have been under Seljuk and Ottoman rule, bringing the cultural and artistic heritage of the time to the present day. Located in the center of the city, Konya Ethnography Museum is an intriguing building where this heritage can be seen closely with its various elements.
The museum, which began service in 1975, features a conference hall, carpet section and warehouse from the ground to the first floor. Various collections of works and traditional crafts can be examined in exhibition halls. In this context, ethnographic examples of extraordinary width from shalwar to bindallı, from caftan women's ornaments stand out. After the date journey between bedding, satin fabrics, clothes prepared with various traditional techniques and many other works, such as pots, bowl, ewer, mortar, censer, mill, tobacco pouches items related to daily life can be seen. Examples of this rich collection continue with manuscript, hundreds of years of manuscripts Qurans, mirrors, writing drawers and various cultural items.
The adventure of Konya Ethnography Museum is completed with war materials such as swords and shields and a large collection of carpets... The unique carpets exhibited in the museum, as well as Konya, call it a visual feast with rich examples of Anatolian geography.
