In this context, the number of Armenian churches built in the 10th century is also remarkable. One of these religious structures is the Horomos Church, about 15 km from Ani.
The church, which is known to have been built by King Abas I, was damaged as a result of the raids in 982, but was restored to Armenian rule and repaired. In the 11th century, when Seljuk dominance began, he remained active, preserving its importance. In the 13th century, the building, which transformed into a cemetery of the Mkhargrdzeli Dynasty, also had a section called 'Scriptorium', where books were produced.
Although it remains a religious center that has maintained its cultural significance for centuries, it was abandoned in the 1600s according to estimates horomos church... The church, which began to be active again since the mid-1800s and was undergoing repairs, remained completely deserted after 1920 when the nearby village was empty, especially destroying the walls.
For the Two-part Horomos Church, it would not be wrong to say 'Church reached after difficult roads'. It is very difficult to walk over the land near the Arpaçay River on the border with Armenia. It is recommended to go carefully.
