Ani has an important place in the history of Anatolia for thousands of years... The important commercial city on the Silk Road in the Middle Ages, allows many ancient structures to be seen in a short time within the route, 42 km from the City of Kars in eastern Turkey. One of these structures is the Gagik Church.
The church, which is known to have been built by The Armenian King Gagik in the 10th century, was demolished after a while due to technical problems with his plan, but was repaired in the 12th century and used some more time for religious purposes. After its demolition, it remains in stone blocks scattered over a certain area for centuries.
Today, various parts of the columns and some decoration details are interesting among the ruins of the ruined church. When the original plan of Gagik church, which has a slab that promotes the structure on the front, is taken into consideration, the circular-shaped structure and the details of the high dome of the columns made with basalt stones stand out.
Gagik Church, one of the largest churches in the east of Anatolia when it was first built, is one of the places where photography enthusiasts inparticular accumulate memories.
