Offering many alternatives to the visitors despite its small surface area, Kınalıada is a small island within the borders of Adalar (Princes Islands) District. The closest island to the Anatolian Side of Istanbul, Kınalıada is also known as the merciless exile place of the Byzantium Empire.
Kınalıada is known for its narrow streets, port, square, beaches, Ayazma Bay, monastery and churches, as well as Kınalıada Mosque, which has a design hard to describe. The mosque, adjacent to the Kınalıada Park, is located just on the seaside. It is rare to hear the waves so close to a mosque around the world. The mosque is located at a central place with the settlements in the background, the sea in the front and the park by the side, and it is one of the most frequently visited places on the island.
Kınalıada Mosque was completed in 1963 on the island which did not develop much until the 1800s, and its design was from the hands of contemporary Turkish architects Turan Uyaroğlu and Başar Acar. Standing out with its interesting design, this mosque contributes to the silhouette of the island quite differently. The interior of this sophisticated mosque is relatively simple with its walls, classical mihrab and minbar.
The elegant and long minaret, yard and fountain of the mosque with a triangular roof attract attention. Moreover, the cistern and health centre adjacent to the mosque increases the number of visitors.
