Gaziantep Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque, one of Gaziantep's most famous works, is one of the most popular places in the city.
Written sources for the Grand Mosque, which is one of the first structures of the historic city in southeastern Turkey, differ in terms of the date of its construction. A general point of distinction prevails at the point where the history of the first construction dates back to the 13th or 14th century. It may have been finally built in 1211 or completed in 1357.The Grand Mosque was built in the Mamluks ' time, which was destroyed by the Ottoman Empire in 1517 but ruled for nearly 300 years on the eastern Mediterranean coast from Egypt to Syria.
During the centuries under Ottoman rule,Grand Mosque underwent many repair works in order to avoid succumbing to time. Its most recent repair also took place in the 19th century, and the mosque's minaret was renovated.
One of the landmarks that greets Gaziantep with all its glory, UGrand Mosque has an interesting pulpit that can move on wheels while drawing attention to its woodwork. The decorations in the mosque, which consists of two large sections, rectangular plan and relatively large dimensions, are another of the interesting artistic subjects. Especially the mihrab part is surrounded by highly detailed motifs.
