The Church of the Virgin Mary, one of the most important historical places in Çanakkale, is of great interest to local visitors as well as tourists. The church is currently located in the Bozcaada region and is the only church open to worship in the city.
The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox community... It is possible to find traces of Venetians when looking at the history of its construction. The garden section of the Church of the Virgin Mary contains an Bell from 1895 and clock tower. This area has four floors in total. The total length of the bell tower is around 24 meters. The first place already immediately prominent in the church is this bell tower. A metal cage is included in the area in the early 1980s when serious deterioration occurs in some parts due to defects in its structure.
Currently the Church of the Virgin Mary is located exactly on a Greek quarter. The original name of this historical Church of Çanakkale is essentially transferred to Kimisis Teodoku Greek Orthodox Church. The last restoration associated with the church was in 2006. The restoration works continue for approximately one year and take its present form. Those wishing to visit the Church of Our Lady may be involved in the mass, which took place at 08.00 on Sunday morning. It is closed during the week to visit the church except for the liturgy. Although the date of construction is known as 1869, this is not confirmed with certainty. There is no information at the entrance of the church that supports this.
This unique architecture, which draws attention primarily during the Bozcaada trip, evokes a sense of admiration. In order to reach here, you must come to Bozcaada via Çanakkale. Ferries departing regularly via the Geyikli freight ferry pier should be preferred for this transport.
