Çimenlik Castle

Çimenlik Castle in Çanakkale contains some war remains belonging to the Entente states that came from the Aegean Sea and crossed the Sea of Marmara during World War 1 and thus wanted to take over the capital Istanbul.
Among them is the German submarine UB 46, which was thrown into the castle by a British ship on 18 March 1915 but was smashed by a mine by Cannonball left from an explosion in the fortification wall and its remains were removed from the coast. The submarine relic was previously on display at the Istanbul Naval Museum and was brought to Çanakkale in 2008.
On the other hand, various cannons, cannon batteries, mines and other fighting vehicles are on display again on the exterior of the castle. The powder mill building, which was given function as a gallery, can also be seen within the castle. There are also two mosques in the castle: the Fatih Mosque and the Abdul Aziz Mosque.
When the history of the castle is examined, it is known that it was built by Sultan Mehmet The Conqueror and that it was modernized to defend the entrance of the Sea of Marmara during the last period of the Ottoman Empire. It consists of two lines, the outer and inner fortress. The outer wall, which houses nine bastions in total, has a height of 150 x 100 meters and an height of 11 meters.
The inner castle, which functions as a museum, stands out for its 25-metre height in addition to its 42x48-metre measures close to the square. Military materials on the first floor, Cinevision show about the Battle of Çanakkale, the second floor of the layout and the last floor of the various oil paintings can be examined.
Çimenlik Castle, which has been made of Landscape Studies on and around the Sea coast, attracts interest both with its spiritual atmosphere and its landscape.
