Great Anafarta Martyrdom

Bigali, one of the most visitor-attracting villages of Çanakkale, is especially prominent with being the headquarters of Atatürk during the war. The village contains memories of the Çanakkale war from head to toe. In this village, Ziyabey Martyrology and Ali Riza Effendi Martyrology as great as Anafarta Martyrology is of particular interest. This martyrdom was created with the initiatives and contributions of Ibrahim Köşdere, who served as deputy of Çanakkale in 2005. This great martyrdom is instrumental in commemorating 749 martyrs in total. Because the body of the commander of the 21st Infantry Regiment, Ziya Bey, who was killed in the Gallipoli campaign, is located here. At the same time, Lieutenant Colonel Halit Bey of the 1st Division Cavalry was buried here. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk often mentions these people in his memoirs. Both names were martyred at Asma Creek on 11 August. It is also very close to the area used as an arsenal at the time. The location of the Great Anafarta martyrdom is towards the exit of the village. Today, there are only six martyrs who can be identified in this martyrdom. The Great Anafarta martyrdom also has a fountain and a social facility outside the museum and Masjid. This place is sometimes referred as the ‘Martyrdom of Khalid and Reza'. Ottoman Turkish stands out in the inscription of martyrdom which reaches today. It is known that the rankle who lay in martyrdom fought in the Ariburnu campaign. In the process, they engage in an intense struggle to reclaim a hill, and unfortunately the city falls. For this reason, the name of that hill remains Halil Riza Hill. A Turkish slab is found on the grave of Halit Bey. An explanatory text was preferred on this plate, which was included in 2007. Unfortunately, the plaque does some damage to the tombstone.
