The Obelisk, located in the Iznik district of Bursa, is 2000 years old. This obelisk, built in the 2nd century AD in memory of Asclepiod's son, L. Cassius Philiscus, rises on a square prismatic base, thick at the bottom, and thinner towards the top.
About the Obelisk, which at first glance looks like a rapier or wedge; It is said that when it was first built, it consisted of six pieces and was 15.5 meters high. It is even said that there is a bird figurine at the end of this 15.5 meters. It is estimated that the bird figurine disappears for some reason over time.
Footprints and connection sockets on both sides of the triangular prismatic obelisk on the pedestal indicate the presence of bronze statues in this section. In the lower part of the monument, that is, in the part buried in the ground, there is a grave, and the large rubble stones and wall traces in the pits, which are also seen by illegal excavations from time to time, show that this place was built in the style of a tumulus burial chamber.
Finally, let us state that the obelisk is also called “Beştaş” or “Nişantaşı” among the people.
