Tekkale Monastery is a relatively well-kept historical value remaining on the hill slope of Artvin. It is located in the Yusufeli district of Artvin, within the borders of the village with the same name. The monastery, which has survived from the Middle Ages to the present day, is not active but serves for touristic purposes. The monastery consists of four different parts. Along with the well-preserved church within the structure, there is a seminar room, a dining hall (trapeza) and a prayer place (chapel). The monastery focuses on the big church with a basilica plan. In this spiritually important area of rectangular shape with round arched windows, the roof and stepped sections with two different heights draw attention. It can be interpreted as a simple structure. It hosts a small amount of geometric and vegetal-shaped ornaments. At this point, the frescoes of the church that have survived to the present day stand out. The centuries-old fresco, which is supposed to belong to Saint Nino, can be seen in all its details. On the other hand, it is possible to state that many details in the monastery are generally destroyed. Tekkale Monastery is among the interesting options in the region in terms of religious and cultural tourism, with the small village nearby, its clean air and the surrounding natural beauties.
