Located on Çubuk Stream, Çubuk Dam is approximately 10 kilometers north of the capital Ankara. Construction of this large dam started in 1930 and continues for six years. Çubuk Dam is one of the dams that has responded to the water needs of the people of Ankara since 1936. The water supply of the regional industry also occurs to a certain extent from here. The most interesting feature of the dam is that it was undoubtedly the first dam of the Republican Era. The total volume of the dam, which stands out as a body fill type, is 120 thousand cubic meters. The total height is 25 meters, provided that it is calculated over the stream bed. It offers a total drinking water capacity of around 3 hectometer cube per year. The volume in the lake portion of the Çubuk Dam, which is also a dam for flood control purposes, is 12.50 cubic meters.
During the foundation phase of Çubuk Dam, the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had important initiatives. He is also personally involved in the grand opening on 3 November 1936. This dam provides considerable irrigation of the Ankara Plain. On the other hand, Çubuk Dam is considered as an important natural beauty in recent periods. In this context, the local people often consider this area as a promenade. Being 5 kilometers from the district center of Çubuk is considered as an important advantage in transportation. Fertile streams such as Kışla, Çayır, Kırkpınar and Hacıkadın feed this place for most of the year. Water taken from here is directed to Pursaklar treatment plants.
The total length of the Çubuk Dam, which both meets the water needs of the people of the region and is considered as a kind of natural beauty, is around 34 kilometers. A period of serious contamination begins due to the mixing of sewage and water intake is stopped from here. In addition, alluvials that begin to fill in the dam bowl are also effective in cutting water intake.
