Antep’s Baths, Swing The Fireboxes
"...Thronged the roofs in Hoşgör Settlement
Ask the çiğ köfte, taste the baklava
Eat they say to your wish
Oh my girl from Antep, come by me my sweet talker
The music is played, come on let’s dance..."
Bath culture is so famous in Gaziantep that there is even a Turkish Bath Museum in this city! And the local people pull up the stakes and head to the baths. It is not just a symbol for hygiene, but the bath means more in this city... They used to socialize in there, eat and drink in the bath, and have the most sincere chats there. They would become close friends; old women used even to choose the brides for their sons and grandsons in the Turkish bath!
The mothers and fathers give a "bath kiss" to their children at the baths... Because the phrase is like this: "Oh my! You've just come out of the bath. Give me a bath kiss!"
Please do not forget to add a Turkish bath to your route in Gaziantep which is so different with its foods, history and values. An authentic atmosphere will welcome you in the baths of Gaziantep, which are trendy among not only the local people but among the tourists.
