According to the last population census, Ankara city, the "Capital" of the Republic of Turkey accommodates a population of 5 million 639 thousand 76 persons. The population is divided almost equally between men and women, and 2 million 279 thousand 850 men form 49,54% of the population, while 50,46% represents 2 million 845 thousand 226 women.
Ankara has a surface area of 24 thousand 521 kilometre-squares, and it is the third city in Turkey with the biggest surface area. The city’s traffic code is 06, and phone code is 0312. The coordinates are 39 degrees 57 minutes north latitude and 32 degrees 53 minutes eastern longitude.
Ankara is consisted of 25 districts, namely Akyurt, Altındağ, Ayaş, Bala, Beypazarı, Çamlıdere, Çankaya, Çubuk, Elmadağ, Etimesgut, Evren, Göbaşı, Güdül, Haymana, Kahramankazan, Kalecik, Keçiören, Kızılcahamam, Mamak, Nallıhan, Polatlı, Pursaklar, Sincan, Şereflikoçhisar and Yenimahalle, and it has 1455 neighbourhoods.
Because of its geographical position, Ankara lies on the continental climate zone, and the Black Sea climate can be observed in the northern areas of Ankara even if it is rare. The hottest months of the year are July and August, and the coldest month of the city is January. The annual average rain in the central region of Ankara is 415 mm, and its flora consists of moorland and forests.
