The Red Minaret Mosque

The Red Minaret Mosque

Every corner of Van consists of doors that open to a separate history. It takes the visitors to time travel, so to say. The Red Minaret Mosque is one of the most beautiful examples of this. There is no inscription of the Red Minaret Mosque... Anatolian Seljuk salutes its explorers with its simple architecture from the Seljuk period. The minaret is from the Seljuks, and the mosque part is from the Ottoman empire. The body part of the mosque is made of bricks and the base part is made of cut stone; It also has a distinct beauty with its location overlooking Lake Van. There are geometric passages in the body of the minaret that impress those who see it. At the bottom of the strip are tile plates. These tile plates are called 'Baçini'. The structure of the mosque, which has been defiant for hundreds of years of history, is rebuilt even if it succumbs to time. The Red Minaret Mosque, one of the only buildings that shed light on the Anatolian Seljuk period, is also one of the first religious structures of the Turks who have converted to Islam. The sides of the mosque with a rectangular plan are covered with vaults. The mosque, which is accessed through the door on the north front, has two altars. The work with its dome in the middle is one of the places where both historians and curious explorers go to see it today.
